So it look like mevio.com is no longer hosting “non profit” podcast, I don’t know if it’s just a bug or it’s a decision they have taken recently, but the thing is, is that they haven’t publicized it yet and as far as I know a lot of producer got theirs account suspended without notice or explanations. I know some of us wrote for an explanation and have yet to get an answer. The files are still up from what I see but the rss feed and webpage have been removed. I have only posted public domain material on this podcast I was having, so i don’t think it was brought down for copyright issues.

It is just bad timing because I was going to produce new episodes and try to bring it back alive, I was neglecting it since a few years.

Anyway, for the moment I have relocated it. So if you are intrigued about Old Time Radio Show just try it:
The “New” Odd and Not show

The website is at : http://oddandnotshow.ennev.net/

Honestly, I think it is a bad news.

Yes, it might be good news for Rakuten, I really believe that the kobo like of product is great; I had the opportunities to try the latest kobo touch and it was amazingly crisp and fast. The kobo apps on my iPad is my Book reader of choice and that is also but my books from kobo because it gives me the ability to read my book from my phone, ereader, ipad etc. If I where to buy from Apple I would be locked down to read them on an apple product and not even one of theirs computers.

o.k. by to the main topic, like I said Kobo is a great product, and for a “paper” book seller like indigo I was applauding the initiative, it’s clear that book stores have to evolve or they might end like Boarders in the u.s.a., so selling its stake in Kobo sound a bit weird to me, I feel it’s like selling theirs future. Yes, it will bring fresh money in the bank account in the short term, but what is there in the long run?

I guess only the future knows but I would find it sad if the publishing world only dominated by Amazon, Apple and maybe Google.

Here’s the Montreal Gazette article :

http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Kobo+acquired+Japanese+firm+million/5677078/story.html)

Just got an android phone just for the fun of it, I got a cheap Samsung Galaxy 550.

I mainly use my Ipad and will still do so, but I thought it could be interesting to see what is on the other side after all theses years of using apple’s product.

So far I am impressed with what this little 98$ phone gives. Android itself is o.k. but it is no ios. I think it is easier to work with an iPhone/iPad, you can still get a lot done if not more with Android, but you will need to be a geek to do so.

Will keep you updated on how is life with this.

I have been off the blogging grid a bit. I was a little active on twitter and facebook but
not really, I mostly took pictures and uploaded them on flickr and deviantART.

Nevertheless, I still have project for here do not worry.

I will publish soon some open-source free way to scan slides and
negative for cheap if you already own a DSLR and some way to make
macro. It is actually a simple frame that will enable you to properly
light and hold in place a slide or a negative while you are taking a
macro shot of it with your camera. So far, I have been happy with the
preliminary result I got

Why do I need this in 2011? Because I still love film photography, I
always have been a nostalgic of old technologies, which is not a
secret. Recently I bought a lomography
Diana mini, fun it use regular 35mm film (check some of the
result here: thesite), but it take picture in square format, so it is
not appropriate to just have the film printed or scan at the lab, they
don’t know how to handle this. I have an old flatbed scanner that is
able to scan negative and slide, but it is an early model and I never
got satisfied with the result I got, I always had to put a lot of post
processing to get something minimally usable.

So you see, compared to the example I made by just holding in my hand a
slide with a white lit surface in the back, it is already better!

So instead of buying a new scanner maybe I will perfect this for a
while.

When I have something solid I will give on this website the instruction
and material needed to make this device. However, it will be easy to
make, so it will be accessible to everybody.

in the spam filter

because it was totally off topic

Also it doesn’t make you look more legit when you leave www.google.com as your website and that the email address is not valid either. Maybe you want to convince me that your services will help make my website a lot of money. The only thing you did was to lose credibility.

But writing this did entertain me for 5 min.

Thanks.

p.s. if I was making 900$ a day with a scam like yours I would not be wasting time on other people website complaining about my comment not being published.

Rumor: Palm May Ditch WebOS for Android
An anonymously-sourced, unconfirmed memo partially quoted on Slashdot purports to show that Palm is ready to ditch the failing WebOS – which powers its Pre smartphone – and instead become yet another Android handset maker. The full memo was promised to be posted on Wikileaks at midnight Eastern last night. It is still not there.

Is Apple preparing to charge for some podcast?

I know that some podcasted have been dreaming of this revenue model over an advertisement based. But seriously, you show is better to be very good for me to pay. I know that advertisers have been more than slow to embrace podcasting but i’m not sure that a paying model is going to work either.

I’ve checked around and haven’t found more about this for now, but will continue to dig.

According to the WSJ, HarperCollins Publishers is in talks with Apple about providing ebooks for Apple’s tablet. It’s speculated that ebook markets such as Amazon’s would
seriously suffer if such an arrangement were finalized.

Based on explanations by Brian Murray, the chief executive of HarperCollins, the reason Amazon would initially have something to fear is that “e-books enhanced with video, author interviews and social-networking applications could command higher retail prices for publishers than current e-books” in the future. Apple’s tablet would, of course, be ideal for such enhanced content, and we already know that they’ll be digging for mags, newspapers and college textbooks but this is some of the first we’ve heard of Apple negotiating with publishers for regular e books.

Ah, I suppose we’ll be able to speculate some more on January 27th, in the meantime—on the tablet or not—”enhanced ebooks” sound like a blast. Just imagine how often you’ll say that something was way better with the author commentary.
